  CLASS DRUG AND MECHANISM: Atorvastatin is an oral drug that lowers the level of cholesterol in the blood. He belongs to a class of drugs called statins that includes lovastatin (Mevacor), simvastatin (Zocor), fluvastatin (Lescol), and pravastatin (Pravachol). All statins, including atorvastatin, to prevent the production of cholesterol in the liver by blocking the enzyme that makes cholesterol, HMGCoA reductase. They are less than the total blood cholesterol, as well as LDL cholesterol levels.   PRESCRIBED FOR: Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
